Family Friendship Bags is an outreach program for all students at Clarion-Limestone School District and younger siblings who are not receiving adequate nourishment at home.
The program is modeled after the existing Backpack Program run by Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania. Currently, we are feeding 110 elementary students, 10 high school students and 20 Head Start students EVERY weekend throughout the 2017-2018 school year. Each bag costs approximately $2.46 and contains the following items:
- 2 packets of oatmeal
- 1 microwavable macaroni and cheese cup
- 1 can of SpaghettiOs
- 1 pack of peanut butter crackers
- 1 granola bar
- 2 fruit items (Will vary depending on availability. Example: one applesauce and one orange)
The intent of this program is to help children, as they are innocent victims of poverty and are not able to help themselves.
We have many volunteers to run the program and wonderful support within the school. The support of our community has enabled us to expand from 87 children on the 8 long weekends in the 2015-2016 to our current enrollment numbers.
